Trouble Ahead in Europe?
"While investors have favored the euro over the dollar for much of this year, recent cracks in the European credit markets may suggest that such favoritism is likely to end soon.
- Specifically, the yields on some euro-zone government bonds are up on the year while the cost to insure against a possible default by certain countries has moved up in recent weeks as well.
- Even Euribor has been on the rise as has euro-zone bank borrowing from the ECB’s emergency lending facility.
-Interestingly, these euro-zone credit cracks are aligned with the charts of the euro against the dollar and the dollar index with both pointing to the possibility of a near-term decline in the euro."
